West Virginia Attorney General issued the following announcement on May 17.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey issued the following statement Monday praising a U.S. Supreme Court decision to hear arguments as to the constitutionality of a pro-life law passed in Mississippi.

The Attorney General joined an 18-state coalition in July 2020 urging the Supreme Court to hear oral arguments in the case. The statute would prohibit abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy in Mississippi.

“We appreciate the Supreme Court’s willingness to hear and fully consider the constitutionality of Mississippi’s law,” Attorney General Morrisey said. “The statute extends access to the foundational promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all – including the unborn. I firmly believe life is precious and will vigorously defend life in court.”
