CHARLESTON — A woman is suing Highland Hospital for a dangerous working environment.

Summit BHC West Virginia is doing business as Highland Hospital

Pamela Chase was hired in 2019 as a charge nurse for the Tween Unit at the defendant's facility and worked there until April 23, 2020, when she was constructively discharged after having been placed in multiple life-threatening situations with patients due to understaffing, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Chase claims she reported to the defendant that her union was understaffed on several occasions and she reported incidents that had occurred as a result of understaffing.

Despite her complaints, nothing was done and Chase was put in life-threatening situations, according to the suit. Chase claims she was then falsely accused by a patient of abuse and neglect and was suspended pending an investigation.

Chase is seeking compensatory damages. She is represented by Scott H. Kaminski of Ray Winton & Kelley.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Carrie Webster.
