MOUNDSVILLE — Thirteen people have filed a lawsuit against Covestro alleging exposure to benzene and other pollutants that caused them damages.
Tonya Tribett, as the executrix of the estate of George Michael Tribett, Ronald Helms, Isolde Helms, Joseph Giovengo, Jeffrey Giovengo, Frank Kimble, Connie Kimble, Jeremy Moore, William Burkett, Ilse Burkett, Greg Beatty and Jane Beatty filed the lawsuit against Covestro, Thomas Still and Craig Graybill alleging exposure to dozens of harmful air pollutants and other chemicals at Covestro's plant, according to a complaint filed in Marshall Circuit Court.
The chemicals received, distributed and manufactured by the defendants routinely spilled and exposed people in the area, including the plaintiffs. Still, the health and safety coordinator for Covestro, knew or should have known about the chemical spills and failed to protect those who would come in contact with the chemicals, according to the suit.
The plaintiffs are seeking compensatory and punitive damages. They are represented by Paul J. Harris in Wheeling.
