Kanawha Family Court Judge Investiture to be July 23

General court 06

West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals issued the following announcement on July 19.

Julie A. Pence sworn in as a family court judge in a ceremony at noon on Friday, July 23, in the Supreme Court Courtroom on the third floor of the East Wing of the West Virginia Capitol. Supreme Court Justice John A. Hutchison will deliver the oath of office.

The public and the media are invited to attend. Gov. Jim Justice appointed Ms. Pence to the Eleventh Family Court Circuit (Kanawha County) on June 8 to replace Judge Kenneth Ballard, whom the governor earlier appointed to fill a circuit court vacancy in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit (Kanawha County). Ms. Pence is a 1995 graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School.

She has a 1999 bachelor’s degree in political science from Marshall University and a 2002 degree from West Virginia University College of Law, where she served as the class vice president. She has practiced divorce and family law at Hardy Pence in Charleston since 2018. She previously was an associate attorney at Dinsmore & Shohl for almost eight years and was in-house counsel for a real estate development company. She and her husband, attorney Christopher Pence, live in South Charleston with their two daughters, Katherine and Caroline.
