Member Robert M. Steptoe Jr. has received the Award of Merit from the West Virginia Bar Association. The Award of Merit is the organization’s highest honor and recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the legal community. The award was presented at the association’s annual meeting on July 23.
Steptoe has been practicing law for nearly 50 years. His practice focuses on civil litigation and labor and employment law. He has tried more than 100 jury and non-jury trials and argued approximately 50 appeals in the West Virginia Supreme Court and the United States Courts of Appeals. He served as the Steptoe & Johnson’s CEO for nearly two decades.
Steptoe is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, American College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, the American Bar Foundation, and the West Virginia Bar Foundation. An active member of his community, Steptoe serves on the board of directors for the Harrison County Economic Development Corporation and Healthy Harrison, Inc. He is a member of the board of trustees for The Nature Conservancy in West Virginia.
He earned his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia. He is a veteran of the United States Navy.
