WHEELING — A woman is suing Wheeling Hospital and a physician alleging medical negligence.

Dr. Stuart Douglas Anderson and Wheeling Hospital were both named as defendants in the suit.

Clarissa T. “Tracy” Barnett went to the defendant’s office on April 1, 2019, complaining of knee pain she had had since January 2019, according to a complaint filed in Ohio Circuit Court.

Anderson gave Barnett injections of corticosteroid in her knees and ordered tests for her. While the tests did not show meniscal pathology in both knees, Anderson thought that was her issue and performed a bilateral knee arthroscopy, a meniscectomy and chondroplasty on May 7, 2019.

Barnett continued to experience knee pain and began to suffer mobility issues after the surgery and on July 31, 2019, Anderson recommended a total knee arthroplasty, which he performed a month later, according to the suit.

Barnett claims she continued to have mobility issues and pain and Anderson scheduled her for a left knee manipulation under anesthesia for Nov. 22, 2019, but it was abruptly canceled and Anderson’s office informed her that he was no longer practicing. Barnett claims she suffered damages due to Anderson’s negligence.

Barnett is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is represented by Michelle Marinacci of Gold Khourey & Turak in Moundsville.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Jason Cuomo.
