CHARLESTON — A woman is suing Bob Evans alleging she suffered discrimination and retaliation during her employment.
Thomas D. Staker was also named as a defendant in the suit.
Teresa Fulford worked for Bob Evans for approximately 21 years until she was constructively discharged, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Fulford claims she was promoted to general manager in 2008 and would train other managers as part of her job. She claims some of these would become general managers and would start out making the same amount she made, despite her being there for more years. She claims when it came to receiving an annual raise, male managers would receive 2-3 percent more than she did, even though she was always rated average or above average in her evaluations.
Staker would plan outings for the male general managers and would not include the female general managers and he routinely embarrassed Fulford in front of her staff and other employees, according to the suit.
Fulford claims Staker would also belittle her to the point she would cry and he would seem pleased. She claims when she made complaints about Staker, corporate took no action to correct his behavior.
Fulford is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is represented by Tammy Bowles Raines of Tammy Bowles Raines Law Office in Charleston.
The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Joanna Tabit.
