FAYETTEVILLE — A Raleigh County couple is suing two physicians for medical negligence.

Drs. T. Lawson Safley and Virginia Stewart are the physicians named in the lawsuit.

Orville Glen Lusk went to Safley's office on Sept. 14, 2017, and signed a consent form for a colonoscopy to be performed by Safley, according to a complaint filed in Fayette Circuit Court.

Lusk claims when he had the colonoscopy, his colon was perforated, which was documented in the operative report, and Safley informed Lusk's wife that the perforation needed to be repaired, but did not inform his wife of the risks or benefits of the procedure.

After he husband's condition worsened, Mary Catherine Lusk demanded her husband be transferred to a different hospital, where he underwent procedures to clear an infection in his abdomen, according to the suit.

The Lusks are seeking compensatory damages. They are represented by David Sims of The Law Office of David Sims and Michael Bee of Hill Peterson Carper Bee and Deitzler.
