CHARLESTON — A woman is suing Charleston Area Medical Center claiming the physician she saw did not recognize her stroke symptoms.

Dr. Mary Elizabeth Mullins and Amanda Parsons were also named as defendants in the suit.

Pamela Medford fell in her home on March 14, 2019, and was unable to get up from the floor, so her husband called Kanawha County EMS for assistance, who took her to Charleston Area Medical Center, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Medford claims the defendants evaluated her but did not call for a stroke alert immediately, despite signs and symptoms of an acute large vessel stroke.

Medford is seeking compensatory damages. She is represented by R. Edison Hill of Hill Peterson Carper Bee & Deitzler in Charleston.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Ken Ballard.

Kanawha Circuit Court case number: 21-C-467
