Woman blames CSX for husband's cancer, death

HUNTINGTON — A woman is suing CSX Transportation alleging her late husband died due to exposure to unsafe fumes and gases.

Marea E. Cremeans, the administratrix of the estate of Willis D. Cremeans, claims her decedent was employed by CSX from 1969 until 1996 as a laborer and machine operator, according to a complaint filed in Cabell Circuit Court.

Willis Cremeans was exposed to diesel exhaust, herbicides, second-hand smoke and other fumes, dusts, gases and cancer-causing agents during his employment, according to the suit.

Marea Cremeans claims Willis Cremeans was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma due to the exposure. He died on Dec. 14, 2020.

Marea Cremeans is seeking compensatory and special damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is represented by Troy Giatras, Mathew Stonestreet and Phillip A. Childs of The Giatras Law Firm in Charleston.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Christopher D. Chiles.
