WHEELING — An abstractor analyst at Steptoe & Johnson's Wheeling office has been named the president of the National Association of Lease and Title Analysts (NALTA) for the 2021-2022 term.

Michelle Teppo has been an abstraction analyst with the firm since 2008 and works alongside attorneys in the firm’s energy practice to serve clients in the Marcellus Shale region.

"Being elected as the 2021-2022 NALTA president is a huge honor and is a position I take a lot of pride in holding," Teppo said in an interview with The West Virginia Record. "I follow in the footsteps of many great past presidents and have a great board working with me for 2021-2022."

Teppo said she is looking forward to continuing efforts to provide the membership with the best educational opportunities and working with the board to make the best decisions for members.

"I am looking forward to working with the upcoming board the most," Teppo said. "It is a great opportunity to be on the NALTA board to meet new individuals that work in the oil and gas industry and learn from them as the year progresses. Everyone that serves on the NALTA board brings fresh ideas each year on how to maintain and grow our membership and provide CLE opportunities."

Teppo said serving brings her great pride and she appreciates NALTA being brought into the spotlight.

"I hope that it piques the interest of other oil and gas companies and individuals working in the industry," she said.

As president, Teppo will preside over all meetings, serve as the organization’s spokesperson, appoint committee leaders, and serve as chair of the Board of Directors.

Teppo is part of the Energy and Natural Resources Department at Steptoe & Johnson.  She became active in the Greater Appalachian Basin Association of Lease and Title Analysts (GABALTA), NATLA’s Eastern U.S. chapter, after earning her lease and title analyst certification.

Teppo served as secretary, president and liaison to NATLA in GABALTA and was twice named member of the year.
