Couple sues Coal-Mac for work-related injury

WILLIAMSON — A Kentucky couple is suing Coal-Mac claiming deliberate intent after the husband suffered a work injury in 2019.

Arch Resources was also named as a defendant in the suit.

Kenneth Young and Lana Young claim that on July 22, 2019, Kenneth Young suffered a work injury when working for the Phoenix No. 4 surface mine in Ragland, according to a complaint filed in Mingo Circuit Court.

Kenneth Young was employed by Coal-Mac and his injury resulted in 13% permanent partial disability and he was deemed unable to continue working in his position.

The defendants violated various MSHA rules and regulations and caused Kenneth Young's injuries, according to the suit.

The Youngs are seeking compensatory and consequential damages. They are represented by James D. McQueen Jr. of McQueen Davis in Huntington.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Miki Thompson.
