PRINCETON — A woman is suing State Farm Fire & Casualty Company alleging it failed to pay out her house fire claims.

Amanda Thomas' residence was destroyed in a fire on Sept. 20, 2020, and at the time, her some was insured against loss by fire pursuant to a Homeowners Insurance Policy, according to a complaint filed in Mercer Circuit Court.

Thomas claims the policy for her home was for $316,800 and for personal property loss of $216,000, and the defendant settled with the plaintiff on Oct. 26, 2020, for the amount of $304,741, for the destruction of her residence.

The plaintiff provided the defendant with a loss inventory of her personal property on Nov. 20, 2020, however, on Dec. 30, 2020, the defendant sent the plaintiff a letter saying that it could not conclude her claim because she did not provide documentation and she then provided copies of written proof of amounts received and her income tax returns. She received an identical letter in March.

Thomas claims the defendant owes her the loss of her personal property and has continued to refuse to pay the full and complete coverage and benefits.

Thomas is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is represented by C. William Davis of Richardson & Davis.
