PRINCETON — Two women are suing Roselawn Acquisition Group alleging it failed to take proper care of their parents' gravesites.

West Virginia Memorial Group was also named as a defendant in the suits.

Barbara L. Saunders and Janet Parenteau claim the defendants exhibited unlawful conduct and provided neglectful cemetery services at Roselawn Cemetery and Funeral Home in Princeton, according to two complaints filed in Mercer Circuit Court.

The defendants purchased cemetery services, goods and property from Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, as well as two other cemeteries in the area, in June 2019.

Saunders and Parenteau claim in July 2019, Saunders went to purchase services from the defendants for the opening and closing and additional fees pertaining to their mother's burial. Their mother was laid to rest next to her deceased husband shortly thereafter and Saunders frequently visited the gravesite.

On Aug. 2, 2019, Saunders noticed the combined granite base of her parents' bronze markers was cracked and her mother's date of death still was not displayed on the marker. She went to the office and complained, and also complained several times thereafter, but the marker was not fixed until February 2020.

Saunders and Parenteau claim Saunders also noticed muddy tracks on top of the bronze markers and when the new marker was installed, it was a thinner stone and not of the same quality and appearance as the previous stone.

Both women complained to the defendants about the state of the cemetery and the lack of care for their parents' gravesite, according to the suits.

The sisters are seeking compensatory and punitive damages. They are represented by Troy N. Giatras and Phillip A. Childs of The Giatras Law Firm; and Jed R. Nolan of Nolan Consumer Law.
