CHARLESTON — A woman is suing Herbert J. Thomas Memorial Hospital Association alleging that her employment was terminated due to her race and age.

Glenna Woodson was a sterilization technician for St. Francis Hospital beginning in 1973, which was owned and operated by the hospital association, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Woodson claims the hospital furloughed the sterilization technicians in April 2020 and when they eventually brought them back, they were all brought back except her. She was officially fired on July 27, 2020.

The defendant's termination of the plaintiff's employment was due to her age and race, which is in violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act, according to the suit.

Woodson is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is represented by Richard W. Walters and Carl W. Shaffer of Shaffer & Shaffer.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Joanna Tabit.
