Coal miners sue Greenbrier Minerals for mining accident

PINEVILLE — Two lawsuits were filed against Greenbrier Minerals alleging injuries from a coal mine accident.

Coronado Coal was also named as a defendant in the suits.

Charles A. Woolum and Michelle Woolum; and Christopher Smith and Amanda Smith claim Christopher Smith and Charles Woolum were employees of Greenbrier and were working at the Lower War Eagle Mine, according to two complaints filed in Wyoming Circuit Court.

Charles Woolum and Christopher Smith were working on July 8, 2019, when a pillar or rib failed and caused injuries.

Christopher Smith suffered a large laceration to his neck, which needed surgery; as well as a head injury, concussion, severe headaches, memory loss, shaking tremors, blurry vision and severe anxiety/depression.

Charles Woolum suffered physical pain and suffering and mental anguish and suffering.

The plaintiffs are seeking compensatory and punitive damages. They are represented by J. Ryan Stewart of Bailey Javins and Carter.

The cases were assigned to Circuit Judge Jim Rowe.
