KEYSER — A man is suing Lumber & Things for a severe injury when he was working one day.

Gerald Baker was a 47-year-old employee of Lumber & Things at the time of his accident on Jan. 13, 2020, according to a complaint filed in Mineral Circuit Court.

Baker claims he was utilizing the block cutoff saw to cut wood when he felt a jerk in his left hand while he was feeding wood into the saw. He threw the saw operating handle back and discovered his hand was severely cut due to an unguarded blade. L&T was later cited for an OSHA violation, according to the complaint.

Baker's hand was amputated to his left wrist joint. He claims the defendant caused him both physical and mental injuries and the diminishment of his ability to fully enjoy life and fully function.

Baker is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is represented by Christopher Wallace of The Wallace Firm in Weirton.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Lynn Nelson.
