State Supreme Court to hear arguments at WVU

MORGANTOWN — The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals will hear arguments next week at the West Virginia University College of Law in Morgantown.

The court will hear five cases on April 5 at the school's Marlyn E. Lugar Courtroom.

The justices will hear arguments beginning at 10 a.m., but the doors will open at 9 a.m. for those attending. The event is free and open to the public. It will also be webcast live on the West Virginia Judiciary's website and will also be posted to the judiciary's YouTube channel after it has concluded.

Usually one time each spring, the Supreme Court hears arguments at the law school during the spring. Four of the five current justices graduated from West Virginia University College of Law, while Justice Beth Walker attended law school at The Ohio State University.

Three of the cases that will be heard on April 5 are Rule 20 arguments, while two are Rule 19 arguments.

The cases include West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training v. Bobby Beavers; State of West Virginia v. David Gilbert Riffle; Leslie Tweedie and Christina Waugh v. US Asset Management; State of West Virginia ex rel. Thornhill Motor Car, Inc. v. Hon. Miki Thompson, Judge of the Circuit Court of Mingo County, and Moore Chrysler, Inc.; and Jay M. Potter v. Bailey & Slotnick, PLLC and Charles R. Bailey.
