CHARLESTON – A Maryland woman is suing a furniture gallery after a bed collapsed on her, causing injuries.

Jacqueline Canady filed her complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against Contemporary Galleries of West Virginia.

According to the complaint, Canady was visiting her parents in Charleston when the bed, which was purchased from and installed by Contemporary Galleries, detached from the wall and fell on her.

She says the bed was not properly attached to the wall, and the falling bed caused her to suffer injuries and seek medical attention. She says she sustained injuries to her head, neck and back.

In addition to her bodily injuries and medical expenses, Canady says she has suffered physical and emotional pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress, loss of ability to engage in normal pursuits, court costs, attorney fees and other expenses. She seeks compensatory damages.

In its answer, Contemporary Galleries denies the allegations and seeks to have the case dismissed.

Canady is being represented by William Forbes and Jesse Forbes of Forbes Law Offices in Charleston. The defendant is being represented by Edgar A. Poe Jr. and Adam Poe of Pullin Fowler Flanagan Brown & Poe in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Carrie Webster.
