CHARLESTON – A woman says she was injured when she tripped and fell on a sidewalk at Riverwalk Plaza in South Charleston.

Teresa A. Johnson filed her complaint May 9 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Zamias Services Inc.

According to the complaint, Johnson was at Riverwalk Plaza on May 13, 2020, when she tripped and fell on the sidewalk outside of Subway in the shopping center. She says she was severely injured because of a hidden defect in the sidewalk, which he called dangerous but unmarked and negligently maintained.

The sidewalk was maintained by BAI Riverwalk LP, BAI Riverwalk GP and Bon Aviv Holdings LLC and managed by Zamias. Those three companies, as well as A2Z Real Estate Inc., were named as defendants in a case filed by Johnson on April 2. Her attorneys filed a motion to consolidate these cases May 16.

Johnson says she severely injured her arm and wrist, and she says the injuries are permanent in nature. The complaint doesn't elaborate on her injuries. She says she has lost the ability to carry out her normal daily activities and to enjoy life in general. She says she can’t perform volunteer work at her church, and she says she can’t work at her home. She also says she has incurred medical expenses as a result of the fall.

She seeks compensatory damages, pre- and post-judgment interests, attorney fees, court costs and other relief.

Johnson is being represented by Matthew R. Massie and Larry L. Rowe of Larry L. Rowe, Attorneys At Law in Charleston.

Kanawha Circuit Court case numbers 22-C-253 (A2Z, BAI et al) and 22-C-373 (Zamias)
