PETERSBURG – A Randolph County woman says a gynecologist botched an endometrial ablation and hysterectomy caused her to become critically ill.

Dana and Carl David Varner filed their complaint against Amanda Borror, D.O., in Grant Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Borror performed the procedure on Dana Varner on January 22, 2020. During the procedure, Borror perforated Varner’s uterus and small bowel, and Varner says the doctor failed to timely recognize, diagnose and treat the complication.

Varner says she developed sepsis and became critically ill, requiring emergency transfer to an outside facility. She was required to undergo an extended hospitalization and further treatment because of Borror’s negligence, the complaint states.

She says she suffered extreme pain and discomfort, emotional distress, anxiety, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, annoyance and inconvenience in addition to substantial medical expenses. Her husband sues for stress, anxiety, emotional distress, loss of companionship and consortium, loss of services, care and comfort.

The couple seeks compensatory damages and punitive damages as well as pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees, court costs and other relief.

In her answer, Borror denies the allegations and seeks to have the case dismissed with prejudice.

The Varners are being represented by James R. Fox of Fox Law Office in Hurricane. Borror is being represented by W.E. Sam Fox II of Flaherty Sensabaugh Bonasso in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Jay Courrier.
