HUNTINGTON – A Wayne County man says he was injured when he was performing renovations to the Huntington Tennis Club.

Denny R. Williams filed his complaint in Cabell Circuit Court against the club and owner Bob Bias.

According to his complaint, Williams was contracted February 1, 2020, by Bias to perform the work at the club, which is located in Barboursville. He says Bias bought the materials, directed the work and was on site every day.

On February 19, 2020, Williams says he was in the process of hanging and lining rafters in the club’s observation room when he lost his balance and fell approximately 29 feet to the ground. He says he suffered severe, serious and permanent injuries.

Williams also says he had asked Bias numerous times before the incident for a rope and harness as a safety precaution when performing such work, but he says Bias denied the requests.

Williams accuses the defendants of negligence. He also accuses the club of vicarious liability and Bias of breach of oral contract.

He seeks compensatory damages for medical and hospital bills for diagnostic and preventative treatment and therapies, physical injuries, emotional distress, mental pain and suffering, fear, humiliation, embarrassment, annoyance, inconvenience, loss of physical health and wellbeing, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of income and earning capacity, loss of value of employment benefits including pension and retirement benefits, disability, disfigurement, loss of homemaker and household services and loss of consortium. He also seeks punitive and exemplary damages, attorney fees, court costs, pre- and post-judgment interests and other relief.

Williams is being represented by Jon D. Hoover of Hoover Law in Barboursville. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Christopher Chiles.
