Chief Judge Dan Greear is launching a public education video series to help West Virginians understand how the new Intermediate Court of Appeals (ICA) works and fits into the West Virginia judicial system.
The first video was posted today on the West Virginia Judiciary YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/hL86K5ooSxs. A new “Understanding the Intermediate Court of Appeals” video will be posted weekly throughout the summer. “Judge Tom Scarr, Judge Charles Lorensen and I are honored to be the first three judges on the ICA.
We are eager for the public to understand how our court functions and improves access to justice,” Chief Judge Greear said. “Because we will be hearing family court appeals, we expect many litigants before us will be self-represented. We want to make the appeals process as transparent and understandable as we possibly can.” The ICA was created by the West Virginia Legislature to hear certain appeals from lower courts. The Governor signed the bill into law in 2021. The three-judge panel and its staff will work in the West Virginia Judicial Tower, and the ICA courtroom will be located on the second floor.
