WINFIELD — A man is suing Sunbridge Putnam Health Care alleging that the nursing home failed to properly care for his family member.
Sunbridge is doing business as Putnam Center.
Genesis Healthcare was also named as a defendant in the suit.
Roy L. Marcum II, as power of attorney for Anita L. Marcum, claims that during Anita Marcum's stay with the defendants, the defendants failed to provide a safe environment for her, according to a complaint filed in Putnam Circuit Court.
Roy Marcum claims the defendants failed to provide adequate supervision and safety devices to prevent Anita Marcum from suffering a fall incident on March 5, 2021, that resulted in an acute left hip fracture with surgical repair.
"The negligence and carelessness of the professionals and non-professionals at Putnam Center contributed substantially causing serious injuries to Anita L. Marcum, resulting in pain and suffering," the complaint states.
Roy Marcum claims the defendants failed to keep the family aware of Anita Marcum's total health status and failed to provide a sufficient number of staff to provide adequate and appropriate nursing care to residents.
"As a direct and proximate result of Defendants' acts and omissions during her residence at Putnam Center, Anita L. Marcu, suffered from a fall incident...that resulted in an acute left hip fracture with surgical repair, mental anguish, physical pain and suffering and incurred medical treatment and expenses for such injuries and was deprived of adequate and appropriate treatment and healthcare or had such treatment and healthcare delayed and was denied her rights as a nursing home resident..." the complaint states.
The defendants' actions also violated Anita Marcum's right to be treated courteously, fairly and with the fullest measure of dignity, according to the suit.
Roy Marcum is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is represented by Jeff D. Stewart, Andrew L. Paternostro, S. Andrew Stonestreet and Michelle L. Barker of Stewart Bell in Charleston.
