CHARLESTON — A man is suing Charleston Area Medical Center alleging it and a nursing home are responsible for the wrongful death of his family member.

Genesis Healthcare and Teays Valley Center were also named as defendants in the suit.

Billy C. Adkins Sr. was a patient at CAMC Memorial Hospital at various times between August 2020 and February 2021, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Bobby Adkins claims during Billy Adkins' time as a patient, the defendants failed to follow accepted medical standards of care.

"By failing to provide the proper preventative measures to prevent Billy C. Adkins Sr. from suffering pressure-related skin injuries," the complaint states.

Billy Adkins was also a resident of Teays Valley Center and Bobby Adkins claims he also experienced pressure-related skin injuries there as well, according to the suit.

"Defendants' acts and omissions...violated Billy C. Adkins Sr.'s right to be treated courteously, fairly and with the fullest measure of dignity," the complaint states.

Bobby Adkins claims the defendants were negligent and caused Billy Adkins' wrongful death on Feb. 22, 2021.

Bobby Adkins is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is represented by Jeff D. Stewart, Andrew L. Paternostro, S. Andrew Stonestreet or Michelle L. Barker of Stewart Bell in Charleston.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Joanna Tabit.
