Justice Beth Walker will discuss the Supreme Court’s work to restore public confidence in the integrity of the West Virginia judiciary during a panel at the Appellate Judges Education Institute Summit.
The panel entitled “Public Confidence and the Courts: Pillars of the Rule of Law” will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her co-panelists are Benes Aldana, President of the National Judicial College, and Montana Supreme Court Justice Laurie McKinnon. The moderator is retired Justice Scott Bales of Arizona. “Over the past four years, our Court has been keenly focused on public confidence in the rule of law in our courts. I look forward to showcasing our Court’s important policies and other initiatives to promote transparency and accountability and a solid working relationship with the other branches of government,” Justice Walker explained.
“I am very proud of the commitment of all five of our justices to collegiality, public engagement and civics education,” she explained. The annual, four-day Appellate Judges Education Institute Summit is presented by the National Judicial College and the American Bar Association’s Judicial Division and provides continuing education for federal and state appellate judges. Summit programming also is presented in collaboration with the Council of Appellate Lawyers and Council of Appellate Staff Attorneys.
