Steptoe & Johnson PLLC is pleased to announce that Susan Deniker, Jack Merinar, and Larry Rector have been honored by the West Virginia Bar Foundation Board of Directors as 2023 Bar Foundation Fellows. The program recognizes lawyers and judges in West Virginia who have shown exemplary dedication to the practice of law in their communities through their professional and personal efforts.
Fellows are selected by the West Virginia Bar Foundation Board of Directors, which comprises statewide judges and lawyers with diverse legal backgrounds. Approximately 465 individuals have received this honor out of more than 7,000 judges and lawyers in the state. Twenty-five Steptoe & Johnson lawyers, including Deniker, Merinar, and Rector, have been selected as fellows since the program’s inception in 1999.
Deniker practices in Steptoe & Johnson’s Bridgeport office and she serves as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. In her legal practice, she focuses on the areas of labor and employment law and litigation, higher education law, and counsels her clients on a wide variety of employment issues, including wage and hour, discrimination, retaliation, and FMLA.
Merinar practices in Steptoe & Johnson’s Bridgeport office, where he is a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Department. In his legal practice, he advises clients on union campaigns and elections, negotiating labor agreements, and employment litigation. His litigation practice also includes construction law, defense of ski areas, libel cases against newspapers, and medical malpractice defense.
Rector practices in Steptoe & Johnson’s Bridgeport office, where he is a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Department. In his legal practice, he counsels clients in all aspects of labor and employment law. In addition, Larry has an active trial and appellate practice, assisting clients with the defense of wrongful discharge, breach of contract, collective actions, and personal injury claims.
