Seventeenth Judicial Circuit (Monongalia County) Chief Judge Perri DeChristopher and Judge Cindy Scott hosted Brookhaven Elementary School fifth-grade students in their respective courtrooms for mock trials at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19.

The media is invited to attend. Approximately 85 students participated in mock trials titled the Village of Sheepfold v. Josie/Joey Wolfcryer. The script was developed by the American Bar Association and has been modified for the number of students. Chief Judge DeChristopher, Judge Scott, their staffs, prosecuting attorneys and local attorneys will be mentoring the students in their respective roles to present the trial to the students who will make up the jury. Once the trials are concluded, students will get a behind-the-scenes tour.

“It is always a pleasure to welcome students to our courtroom.

The more opportunities they have to see in person how the judicial system works, the more likely they are to grow up to be active participants in our democracy,” Judge Scott said.
