Steptoe & Johnson PLLC is pleased to announce that the firm has achieved Mansfield Rule 6.0 Certification from Diversity Lab in their effort to increase diversity in law firm leadership. This marks the second year the firm has been Mansfield Rule certified.

“I am proud our firm has again been recognized by Diversity Lab for our hard work to become a more diverse and inclusive law firm,” said Steptoe & Johnson CEO Chris Slaughter. “We have long had women in leadership at this firm. In fact, my predecessor as CEO, Susan Brewer, is the best example of that. But we have more work to do to improve diversity at the firm. Being Mansfield Rule Certified is another way for us to show we value diversity and we are doing that work. This is a team effort, and we are grateful for the contributions of our attorneys and professional staff who are driving it.”

The Mansfield Rule Certification measures the structural changes and steps law firms have taken over the past year to increase diversity and broaden the paths to leadership – through lateral hiring, client pitch teams, promotions, appointments, and more – to ensure those opportunities are open and transparent to all qualified lawyers. The current certification process evaluates and measures whether law firms and legal departments are including historically underrepresented groups such as women lawyers, underrepresented racial and ethnic lawyers, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities for leadership roles and career advancement opportunities.

“I am excited that our firm’s dedication to fostering diversity and building an inclusive workplace has once again earned us Mansfield Rule Certification,” said Steptoe & Johnson’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion and Business Department Member, Mike Flowers. “Our firm is committed to demonstrating to our clients, communities, and employees that diversity, equity, and inclusion is an important core value at Steptoe & Johnson.”
