CHARLESTON – A Canadian motorcyclist blames Appalachian Tire Products for an accident that caused him injuries.

Lyle M. McRae and wife Wendy McRae filed their complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against Gregory S. Chafin and Appalachian Tire Products.

According to the complaint, McRae was operating his Harley-Davidson motorcycle along with a group of other motorcyclists on U.S. 119 near Holden in Logan County on August 18, 2023, when Chafin, driving a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup truck owned by Appalachian Tire Products, approached the group from behind.

The complaint says both McRae and Chafin signaled to move to the left-hand passing lane, but it claims Chafin failed to slow down enough to avoid hitting the rear of McRae's motorcycle. He says the accident caused him severe injuries and continues to require medical treatment. His wife sues for loss of spousal consortium.

The plaintiffs are being represented by Scott S. Segal, Jason P. Foster and C. Edward Amos II from The Segal Law Firm in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey.
