CHARLESTON – A Nitro couple blames the city's drainage systems for the destruction of their property.

Charlton and Kylie-Jo Jordan filed their complaint in Kanawha Circuict Court against the City of Nitro.

According to the complaint, the Jordans purchased their home in April 2019. Since then, they claim, they constantly have endured water accumulation and flooding in their front and backyards as well as in their basement due to the city's inadequate storm and sewage drainage system.

The issue escalated in July 2023 when a flood destroyed all personal property in their basement, rendering their home uninhabitable and unmarketable, the complaint claims.

The Jordans seeks compensatory damages.

The couple is being represented by  Ryan Stewart and Jacob N. Snuffer of Bailey Javins & Carter in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Maryclaire Akers.
