CHARLESTON – The estate of a Putnam County man has sued several entities after he was electrocuted on the job.

Lara Thornsbury as administratrix of the estate of Michael David Thornsbury II, filed her complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against St. Albans Center II LLC, RD Management LLC, Royal Property Management Inc., RPM Facility Services LLC and Jeffrey Roy,

According to the complaint, Thornsbury was doing electrical work on a building owned by St. Albans Center II and managed by RD Management. Those companies had hired Royal Property Management, RPM Facility Services and Roy to do work at the property. One of those three entities hired Thornsbury to complete  work at the site.

On July 11, 2023, Roy and Stacey Hobbs instructed Thornsbury and another worker to perform electrical work. Thornsbury was not a licensed electrician, according to the complaint. While completing this work, Thornsbury was fatally electrocuted.

The estate accuses the defendants of employer liability deliberate intent, negligence, unsafe workplace, negligent hiring, negligent supervision, negligent retention and statute violations.

The plaintiffs seek compensatory damages for Thornsbury's pain and suffering before his death, mental anguish and sorrow of his survivors, loss of his income and earning capacity, funeral expenses and other damages. They also seek punitive damages.

The estate is being represented by Brett Preston, Dan R. Snuffer and Barbara Samples from WVLawyer PLLC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Carrie Webster.
