CHARLESTON – A man says he wasn't given proper medical care at Marmet Center.

Larry A. Coleman filed his complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against Sutphin Drive Operations LLC, also known as Marmet Center, and Genesis Healthcare LLC.

According to the complaint, Coleman was a resident of Marmet Center starting in February 2023. He says during his time there, he suffered pressure injuries that affected his rehabilitation and caused urinary tract infections, one of which led to septic shock, acute kidney injury and bacteremia that required hospitalization, intensive care and treatment.

Marmet Center is a wholly owned subsidiary of Genesis Healthcare that is operated, managed and controlled by Genesis Healthcare. Coleman claims Genesis Healthcare exercised extensive authority over the nursing home including control of marketing, human resources management, training, staffing policy creation and implementation among others.

Coleman is being represented by Jeff D. Stewart, Andrew L. Paternostro, Katherine H. Arritt and Allison R. Santer of Stewart Bell in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Dave Hardy.
