Trio accuses CAMC of religious discrimination regarding COVID vaccine

State Court
Camc

CHARLESTON – Three Charleston Area Medical Center employees accuse the company of religious discrimination related to its COVID-19 vaccination policy.

The plaintiffs – Shantell Veldora Long, Eloheem Ajallah and Elisha Ntyati Indu Jones – filed their complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against CAMC.

According to the complaint, all three claim they were wrongfully terminated on February 14, 2022, because of their refusal to comply with CAMC's vaccination mandate implemented in October 2021. While the plaintiffs do not challenge the policy itself, they contest how it was applied to them and how they were treated by CAMC.

According to the filing, CAMC allowed all employees to request a waiver for medical or religious reasons. The plaintiffs claim membership in JSW Moorish Temple of Amen Ra, part of The Moorish Science Temple of America. This faith has tenets that they argue should exempt them from vaccination.

The plaintiffs are being represented by D. Adrian Hoosier II of the Hoosier Law Firm in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Kenneth Ballard.
