Woman accuses Berkeley County deputy of false arrest, battery

MARTINSBURG – A Berkeley County woman says she was falsely arrested and assaulted.

Cathy King filed her complaint in federal court against multiple law enforcement agencies and individuals. The defendants are Berkeley County Deputy N. Chronister, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department, the Berkeley County Commission and several unnamed officers from various municipalities including Martinsburg, Charles Town and Ranson.

According to the complaint, the incident took place February 15, 2022. King says he constitutional rights were violated when the defendants used wrongful force while unlawfully detaining her.

The complaint states that at all relevant times, Chronister was employed by the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department and was acting under the color of law within his scope of employment. Other defendants are also accused of acting within their professional capacities during the alleged incident.
