Steptoe & Johnson PLLC is pleased to announce the return of J. Zachary (Zak) Balasko to its Litigation Department. Balasko will be a Member in the firm’s Martinsburg office, serving clients in bankruptcy and corporate restructuring and related litigation matters.

As a former Senior Trial Counsel on the Civil Division, Corporate/Financial Litigation of the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., Balasko represented the United States in some of the most complex and challenging bankruptcy and insolvency matters affecting the federal government. His experience includes representing a federal agency with multi-billion-dollar claims in offshore oil and gas bankruptcy proceedings, to helping small family businesses through Chapter 11 restructurings to obtain fresh starts.
Balasko earned his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University and his law degree from Washington & Lee University School of Law. He is licensed to practice in Virginia and West Virginia.
