Cheryl Stanton recently joined Steptoe & Johnson PLLC as Of Counsel as a member of the firm’s Higher Education team.
“We’re pleased to welcome Cheryl to our firm,” said Christopher L. Slaughter, CEO of Steptoe & Johnson. “Our higher education practice is a strategic growth area for the firm and Cheryl’s impressive background and experience will help to strengthen the services we provide to our higher education clients across the country.”
Stanton provides sound regulatory and legal guidance to institutions of higher education and financial institutions, and represents businesses in high stakes litigation matters. She previously served as general counsel and corporate secretary for two closely-related private liberal arts colleges in Minnesota where she advised the president, senior management and the boards of trustees on legal matters. Stanton’s background as chief legal officer and director at a $1 billion national bank coupled with her experience advising financial institutions in litigation and risk mitigation add to the value she provides advising businesses.
Stanton earned her law degree from Mitchell Hamline University School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota.
