At the conclusion of one’s term in office, what more can anyone ask but that one’s time in service will have made a profound and lasting impact toward improving the lives of people we serve and society as whole? I firmly believe this goal has been achieved.

CHARLESTON – When I became West Virginia Lieutenant Governor and Senate President, I vowed to make education a priority. To me, those weren’t just empty political words. I knew in order to move our state forward, we had to abandon the failed policies of the past, end the days of playing politics with our children’s education and commit to passing meaningful reform.

CHARLESTON – Words are powerful, and they have a particular power when it comes to public policy. As we talk about problems we face in our communities and propose solutions, we have a responsibility to use words precisely and responsibly to describe our world as it is.

CHARLESTON – There is no greater responsibility of state government than to provide a thorough education for our children. American leaders from every generation have recognized the importance of a world-class, public education.

Carmichael says education reform brings needed changes

CHARLESTON – During his campaign in 2016, President Trump ignited the people of this country with his simple, hopeful message: He promised that he would make America great again. He believed simple concepts like lower taxes, fewer job-killing regulations, and a consistent, principled Supreme Court would be cornerstones in writing America’s comeback story.

CHARLESTON – As we take some time to reflect upon the conclusion of the 83rd Session of the West Virginia Legislature, there is an opportunity to remember the accomplishments of the previous year, think about areas where we could improve, and look toward the long-term progress of our wonderful state.

CHARLESTON – In his State of the State address, Governor Jim Justice hailed the “miracle” unfolding in the Mountain State. We’re now on sound fiscal footing, so we can invest more in things like education and infrastructure.
