  • Walker campaign unveils ad to counter 'false' attack

    CHARLESTON – Beth Walker’s state Supreme Court campaign has responded to an attack ad from personal injury lawyers it says includes “false claims based on misleading evidence.” A political action committee called Just Courts For WV began running television ads earlier this week against Walker, according to documents with the Secretary of State’s office.

  • Boat crash defendant files answer, counterclaim

    MORGANTOWN – One of the defendants in a lawsuit involving a Memorial Day boat crash has filed an answer and counterclaim. Steven B. Solomon denied he owned the boat in question and denies he owed a duty to the plaintiffs or that he breached any duty owed to them, according to the March 18 answer and counterclaim.

  • Kanawha woman blames Kroger for collision, injuries

    CHARLESTON – A Kanawha County woman is suing Kroger after she claims it is responsible for a collision that caused her injuries. Kroger Dedicated Logistics Co.; Ruan Transport Corporation; Ruan Transportation Management Systems Inc. and Cedric D. Allen were also named as defendants in the suit.

  • Two more lawsuits filed against Antero for fracking damages

    CHARLESTON – Two more lawsuits have been filed against Antero Resources Corporation for damages due to the company’s fracking practices. Antero Resources Appalachian Corporation and Hall Drilling LLC were also named as defendants in the suits. Slathial A. Simmons, Tracie D. Simmons and E.T.S., a minor; and Kenna Sue Adams filed motions to join already filed cases to an existing mass litigation, according to two complaints filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.

    CHARLESTON – A handful of lawsuits were filed Friday related to 2014’s Elk River Chemical Spill. Saturday, Jan. 9, was the two-year anniversary of the incident that left about 300,000 residents without access to tap water for nine days.

  • C8 trials pushed back to avoid holiday issues

    PARKERSBURG – The next four trials in C8 litigation have been pushed back, so the second trial would not interfere with the holiday season. The second trial was supposed to begin on Nov. 30, but, as the first trial lasted longer than planned, if the second also lasted as long, it would interfere with the Christmas season. Kathy Brown of Kathy Brown Law said the second trial will now start on March 21.

    COLUMBUS, Ohio – A seven-member federal jury awarded $1.6 million to an Ohio woman who developed kidney cancer and claimed it was after drinking water contaminated with C8. The jury found Oct. 7 that Carla Marie Bartlett's kidney cancer was contracted after being exposed to C8 discharged by DuPont's Washington Works facility in Parkersburg into the Ohio River and her drinking water.     CHARLESTON – A Kanawha County woman is suing West Virginia CVS Pharmacy LLC after she claims the pharmacy gave her the wrong medication. An unknown and unnamed pharmacist also was named as a defendant in the suit. On March 11, Maretta Burns presented to her family physician with complaints of anxiety and elevated blood pressure and she was prescribed Lozol 2.5 mg daily for 90 days, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.
