MORGANTOWN — As the partial government shutdown continues, a lawsuit filed by the National Air Traffic Controllers Association was dealt a tough blow by Federal Judge Richard J. Leon when he refused to issue an order for union members to stay home from work.
HUNTINGTON – A former WOWK-TV reporter has filed a lawsuit accusing the station of racial and sexual discrimination, harassment and retaliation. Aaliyah Brown filed her complaint Dec. 10 in Cabell Circuit Court against Nexstar Broadcasting Inc., which operates WOWK.

MORGANTOWN — After a hearing involving the lawsuit filed by Appalachian Mountain Advocates against West Virginia University over refusing a request for documents under the Freedom of Information Act it requested last November, Monongalia Circuit Judge Russell Clawges Jr. told both parties they had seven days to figure out more specific terms on which they could agree.
CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals has found in favor of University Park on an appeal involving University Park at Evansdale's tax dispute.
Justice Beth Walker will take over as Chief Justice in January. She was voted in by the court during an Oct. 29 meeting. The current court consists of Walker, current Chief Justice Margaret Workman, appointed Justices Evan Jenkins and Tim Armstead and acting Justice Paul Farrell. Workman nominated Walker.
WHEELING – Former state Supreme Court Justice and longtime circuit judge Arthur Recht has died. He was 80. Recht died Oct. 28 at Wheeling Hospital after suffering a stroke.
CHARLESTON – David McKinley’s bid to remain in the U.S. House of Representatives isn’t a done deal, but it seems unlikely he’ll lose in November. Most polls show McKinley with a commanding lead over Democratic opponent Kendra Fershee, a West Virginia University law professor. Still, a Super PAC has spent about $500,000 promoting McKinley’s campaign.
On a party-line 62-34 vote Wednesday, the West Virginia House of Delegates elected two-term Delegate Roger Hanshaw, R-Clay, to be the 58th speaker of the House.
CHARLESTON – Robin Jean Davis has retired from the West Virginia Supreme Court, while Chief Justice Margaret Workman and Justice Beth Walker say they won't step down.
