Raleigh couple accuses contractor of subpar work

Contractor

BECKLEY -- A suit has been filed for allegedly poor workmanship completed on a Beckley home.

Roger and Karen Thomas filed suit June 27 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Advantage One Inc. and Melanie Harris.

According to the complaint, on June 27, 2012, the plaintiffs hired the defendants to install stone veneer on the patio and back porch of their home in Beckley. The cost of the work was $7,240, which the plaintiffs paid according to the agreed on schedule, the suit states.

Shortly after the work was completed, the plaintiffs noticed the veneer was breaking apart, and it was determined the defendants failed to properly grind down the patio prior to installing the new veneer, according to the suit.

The defendants are accused of breach of contract, unjust enrichment, breach of express and implied warranties and negligence.

The plaintiffs are seeking repair costs of $9,150, general damages, attorney fees and costs.

They are represented by Charleston attorney David R. Barney Jr. of Thompson Barney. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Robert A. Burnside.
