CHARLESTON -- A woman is suing after allegedly being injured while a passenger on a public bus.

Melisa Sirbu filed suit June 30 in Kanawha Circuit Court against the state of West Virginia, the West Virginia Department of Transportation, the Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority, George Henry Johnson and Vasile Cristian Sirbu.

According to the complaint, on July 5, 2012, the plaintiff was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Vasile Cristian Sirbu and traveling south in the right lane on Clendenin Street in Charleston. At the same time Johnson was driving a passenger bus, owned by the other named defendants, in the left lane next to Vasile Cristian Sirbu's vehicle, the suit states. Vasile Cristian Sirbu then negligently struck the side of the bus, causing Melisa Sirbu's both temporary and permanent severe injuries.

The defendants are accused of negligence and negligent entrustment.

Melisa Sirbu is seeking compensatory damages in an amount to be determined by the court, costs and other relief the court deems just.

She is represented by Charleston attorney Truman C. Griffith of Warner Law Offices PLLC. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge James C. Stucky.
