CHARLESTON -- The family member of a recently deceased man has filed suit against the doctors she claims caused the man’s death.
Donna Farmer, as administratrix of the estate of Gilbert Farmer, filed suit July 10 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Day Surgery Limited Liability Company, Francis Saldanha M.D., R. Samuel Oliver Jr. M.D. and Sonya Parsons CRNA.
According to the complaint, Gilbert was supposed to undergo a cystoscopy, which is a procedure utilized to see the inside of a person’s bladder and urethra, on Oct. 11, 2011. He was sedated during the procedure, but experienced a decreased heart rate toward the end of it, according to the complaint.
In turn, he lost his blood pressure, had no pulse and went into cardiac arrest, the suit states.
Gilbert Farmer was transported to CAMC Memorial Emergency Department and admitted into the Intensive Care Unit. However, he never recovered and died on June 10, 2012, according to the complaint.
Prior to his death, Gilbert Farmer endured mental anguish, experienced pain and suffering and lost his enjoyment of life, the suit states. His family has suffered great mental pain and anguish and lost his services, society, guidance and companionship, the complaint says.
Donna Farmer is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.
She is being represented by Matthew C. Lindsay and Richard D. Lindsay of Tabor, Lindsay and Associates. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Charles E. King.
