Woman steps on water meter lid, falls into manhole

Watermeter

SUMMERSVILLE – A woman says she was injured during a visit to a city park in Summersville when she stepped on a water meter lid and fell into a manhole.

Tonya Mills filed a lawsuit July 16 in Nicholas Circuit Court against the Town of Summersville, doing business as Summersville Water Works.

Mills says on Aug. 9, 2012, she was visiting Veterans Memorial Park and stepped on a water meter lid that was not secured. She fell into the manhole and sustained serious injury because the manhole cover was not secured, according to the lawsuit. The plaintiff says the city had a duty to properly maintain the water meter lid and ensure it was safe and secure.

Mills asks for judgment that will compensate for her injuries and damages, as well as costs and interest.

She is represented by Patrick J. Salango of Preston & Salango PLLC in Charleston.
