Southcentralregionaljail

CHARLESTON – An inmate at a West Virginia jail has filed suit against a correctional officer, alleging she was sexually assaulted while incarcerated.

Amanda R. Cantley alleges she was incarcerated in the South Central Regional Jail in Charleston where she was sexually harassed, sexually abused and sexually assaulted by defendant James Daniel Green from October 2012 through December 2012.

Due to the assault, Cantley suffered anxiety, humiliation, annoyance, inconvenience, emotional distress and pain and suffering, according to the complaint filed Aug. 22 in Kanawha Circuit Court. She also suffered mental anguish, lost her ability to enjoy life and incurred medical and pharmaceutical costs, the suit states.

In addition to Green, Cantley names the West Virginia Regional Jail as a defendant, saying it negligently failed to supervise Green, failed to properly train Green, retained Green and hired Green.

In her complaint, Cantley seeks compensatory and punitive damages, plus costs, attorney fees and other relief the court deems just.

Troy N. Giatras and Matthew Stonestreet of The Giatras Law Firm in Charleston are representing her.

Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib Jr. has been assigned to the case.
