CHARLESTON – Jackson Kelly attorney Laurie Miller recently was appointed to the DRI Law Institute, the CLE accreditation body for DRI, the leading organization of defense attorneys and in-house counsel.

Miller, a member of the Firm’s Health Care and Finance Practice Group, is experienced in products liability and pharmaceutical litigation, construction defect litigation, medical professional liability, nursing home defense and other various types of commercial litigation. She has devoted a substantial portion of her practice to mass litigation, multi district litigation and class actions.

This year, she became a Certified Medicare Secondary Payer Professional. The CMSP credential is an advanced program on Medicare Secondary Payer compliance, which allows Miller to offer clients guidance and legal advice concerning the handling and repayment of Medicare’s conditional payments as well as the Medicare Set Aside process and similar issues protecting Medicare’s future interests in liability cases.

DRI’s Law Institute is responsible for working with over 30 substantive law committees on the content of their seminars and is also responsible for developing new seminars and alternative forms of CLE programming for the organization. Members of the Law Institute are appointed by the DRI President directly and serve three year terms.  The Law Institute will have 18 members this year.

This appointment recognizes Miller’s leadership and involvement in DRI. Miller was also recently selected as the recipient of DRI’s 2014 “Richard H. Krochock Award."

Miller is Program Chair of the national DRI Commercial Litigation Committee and Membership Chair of the DRI Women in the Law Committee. She also serves on DRI’s Medical Liability, Product Liability and Drug & Medical Device Committees.

She is currently working on a chapter in the forthcoming DRI Defense Library Series publication “A Young Lawyers Guide to Defense Practice.” Her chapter focuses on document collection, review and production in discovery.

Miller also serves on the Board of Governors of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia and is the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House of Southern West Virginia.
