Woman says city tore down garage without notice

HUNTINGTON – A Cabell County woman is suing over claims the city of Huntington demolished her garage without notice.

Terrilyn Ariyan filed a lawsuit Sept. 18 in Cabell Circuit Court against the City of Huntington, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on April 11, 2011, a fire damaged Ariyan's property at 23rd Street in Huntington, which included a home and detached garage. On Sept. 18, 2012, the city of Huntington demolished the garage, including the personal property within it, without notifying the plaintiff or salvaging any of the personal property, the suit states. The city is accused of negligence.

Ariyan seeks compensatory and punitive damages, including the loss of property, interest and attorney fees.

She is represented by attorney J. Anthony Spenia of Spenia Law Office in Barboursville. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Christopher D. Chiles.
