Woman says she was fired because of her age

Agediscrimination

KINGWOOD – A Grant County woman is suing over claims she was fired due to her age.

Denise Moon filed a lawsuit Oct. 17 in Preston Circuit Court against the Alpine Lake Property Owners Association Inc., citing age discrimination.

According to the complaint, Moon was hired by the defendant in 2004 and performed her job duties satisfactorily until April 17, when the Alpine Lake Property Owners Association terminated her employment and hired a less-experienced woman in her early 20s for the position.

The defendant is accused of age discrimination, as Moon was older than 40, violating the employee handbook and/or manual and the policies and grievance procedures therein and tort of outrage.

Moon seeks damages including back pay, lost benefits, front pay, compensation for emotional distress, litigation costs and punitive damages.

She is represented by attorneys Erika Klie Kolenich and Lorena Ellen Litten of Klie Law Offices in Buckhannon. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Lawrance S. Miller.
