Charleston firm sponsors adoption of 60 shelter animals

CHARLESTON – Robinson & McElwee donated $4,500 to sponsor the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association’s Black Friday adoption event.

The firm initially began raising money in an effort to help the shelter while it was overcrowded a few weeks ago, however the amount raised exceeded expectations. The donation from attorneys and staff at the firm sponsored the adoption of 60 animals to their forever homes on Nov. 28.

Tambra Cheman, Director of Development at the shelter, said that in addition to the 60 adoptions sponsored by Robinson & McElwee that day, 15 other pets were adopted.

“We are grateful to Robinson & McElwee for their very generous donation which will sponsor 60 free adoptions for our 2014 Black Friday event," Cheman said. "Without them, it would not be possible.

It went fantastic! A really great day. We are so grateful for their hard work and dedication to KCHA and our animals."

The firm’s Charleston office had a Friday Jeans Day to raise awareness for the shelter animals and to encourage donations.  For more information about the shelter, visit www.adoptcharleston.com.

Robinson & McElwee has offices in Charleston, Clarksburg and Wheeling as well as Alliance, Ohio.

Last month, another Charleston law firm also helped the shelter.

The West Law Firm sponsored the adoption of 20 dogs as well as pledge an additional $1,000 in matching funds.

“We got an overwhelming result on Facebook where many people pledged to adopt,” attorney Brooks West said then. “We had close to 500 shares and 1,200 likes on our blog post. So it appears that many people are interested in supporting the shelter’s no-kill policy and the animals that were threatened by over-crowding.”
