Woman blames tanning salon for crushing injuries

Tanningbed

WHEELING – A woman is suing a tanning salon after she was injured while entering a tanning bed.

JLW-TW Corp., which is doing business as Suntan Supply; Heinz Kettler GmBH & Co. KG; and Premier Tanning Salon were all named as defendants in the suit.

On March 3, 2013, Sheila A. Youngblood went to Premier and entered a tanning bed there, according to a complaint filed Feb. 26 in Ohio Circuit Court.

Youngblood claims the top part of the tanning bed slammed shut and crushed her left hand, which caused her hand to be stuck and her to be trapped inside the tanning bed.

Youngblood suffered severe pain and suffering; loss of enjoyment of life; emotional damages, inconvenience and embarrassment; medical bills; and miscellaneous damages, according to the suit.

Youngblood claims the defendants were negligent in failing to adequately repair the tanning bed in which she was injured.

The defendants were liable to Youngblood for intentional misconduct, reckless misconduct and/or gross negligence in causing the accident by failing to maintain and/or adequately maintain its tanning bed, according to the suit.

Youngblood is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by John M. Jurco.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge James Mazzone.
